My friend once compared the comments we find online to listening to AM radio. One typically find comments from some reactionaries, flaky well intending people, others who are articulate, but write something too long to read, but my question is "Can we learn anything from reading comments online?"
Having the opportunity to speak, express oneself comes too early or late in life. Coming from North America, where we have perceived values of freedom of expression, justice and democracy, the right to speak is a given. Unfortunately, I have had the experience of speaking and accepting judgements before I had sufficient knowledge of a given situation.
I do not think that online comments should be used for statistical purposes, as it is likely that individuals may hijack or bot forums or websites in order to increase the popularity of their point of view or comment. Nor should all comments be ignored.
